Now Entering Island Time- Isla Holbox

Tomorrow I’ll be entering island time, heading south of the border to Isla Holbox to spend a week in paradise. This time last year we were headed to this same little island for my literal day one friend, Sadie, wedding. Little did we know, we would fall head over heals in love with this little speck of paradise off the coast of Cancun. This remote hideaway is definitely a more adult friendly getaway. When I say remote, i’m not kidding. It’s a 1.5 hr shuttle ride to the ferry and a 30 min. ferry ride, but man is the trek worth it. I’m telling you, Holbox is a hidden gem, and you’re going to want to go before everyone else finds out about it like Tulum.

To say I am stoked for this trip is an understatement. There could not be a more perfect trip to kick off apopofliz.com with. Shout out to my amazing mom who surprised me with this trip with some of our dearest family friends. Although it’s kind of bad timing with finals quickly approaching (1 month till graduation!), and my Caapstone professor is less than thrilled for me to say the least, nothing was stopping me from making this trip work even if that meant an extra assignment to make up my missed class… YOLO?

We are staying at Villas Flamingos, a beautiful boutique hotel with only 30 rooms. The staff is amazing and as friendly as can be. We are so excited to go back and see them especially our favorite bartender Jahir. Counting down the minutes until  i’m eating some fresh chips, guac and ceviche on the beach!

This was a blue lagoon we found while on our island hopping excursion!

The island is filled with boutique hotels and 5 star restaurants to match. To this day I stand by my word that the best meal i have EVER HAD IN MY ENTIRE LIFE was at Casa Las Tortugas. The seafood is as fresh as it gets, but what grabbed my taste buds at this restaurant was the cauliflower mashed potatoes, they tasted so normal that we thought the chef had lied to us and used real potatoes.  They also have a chic outdoor cocktail lounge next door where you can sip and snack on unique drinks and Hors d’oeuvre’s for the happiest of hours. The fact that we are on our way back to this place for our second time speaks volumes since we are the type of people that like to explore new places each year.

…when your mom loves turtles and insists on a picture with the sign… garuntee you see a 2.0 of this pic in the near future.

Hope you enjoyed this little sneak peak into what i’ll be sharing with you guys over the next week through @apopofliz. Check back soon for another rave review of our trip and the 4-1-1 on all things Isla Holbox!
